According to police, a 70-year-old Sand Springs man was arrested in Arizona on Monday after police spotted him traveling with his dead wife strapped to the passenger seat.
Rodney Puckett of Sand Springs, Oklahoma was stopped for a traffic violation in Eloy, Arizona just outside of Pheonix when the officer noticed a dead woman sitting beside him in the vehicle. Sand Springs Police confirmed Rodney Puckett was the subject of a Silver Alert a few weeks ago. That alert was canceled after he was arrested in Kansas two weeks ago for alluding police.
Puckett explained to officers that the dead passenger was, in fact, his wife, 74-year-old Linda Puckett and that she had died in a Texas hotel during their road trip.
“He moved her body into their vehicle, continuing towards their destination,” the police statement said.
Officers say they are not sure how Puckett reconnected with his wife, Linda, for a road trip and it was not clear where the Puckett’s next destination was or how long the man had been driving with his dead wife in the car. Linda’s body was turned over to the county medical examiner.
Sand Springs detectives said they’re not sure when Puckett was released from the Kansas jail, but they plan to follow up with police in Arizona. The Eloy Police Department and Texas state police are trying to determine whether the woman was the victim of a homicide.
The husband was arrested and charged with abandonment and concealment of a corpse.
